How it all goes down

Details

I am photographic print artist specializing in in-home lifestyle photography. I take care of my clients from start to finish, meaning I have a vision for your art, and I follow through until it is printed and framed, or produced on canvas through a professional lab, and up on the walls of your home.

My style is very photojournalistic, and my goal is to tell your story in photos. I believe that photographs taken of your family should represent real life and the relationships you have. I started photographing families in 2001 and have seen lots of cute trends over the years, but they tend to date photos. By keeping the focus of the photograph on your family, your sweet children, and the connection between you, your portraits will be keepsakes you can proudly display for years to come.

If my style matches yours and you have decided to schedule a session, we will meet approximately one week before your photo shoot. This planning session lasts about 20-30 minutes and helps me to customize your photo session. While I do stay true to my style, I want to make sure that your family's personality comes through in the photos.

After your photo session, you will return in about one week for your ordering session. This is when the order will take place and anyone involved in the decision making process needs to be present at this appointment. Any photos ordered at this appointment are kept on file forever. Any images not ordered will be purged and no longer available for purchase. For this reason, please come prepared.

Once you have placed your order, your photos will be ready in approximately 4 weeks.

Planning your session

Before each photo session, I ask that we get together to discuss the details of your session. This is called the planning session, and here is some information regarding that appointment:

When I photograph a family, I have two main goals. The first is to capture everyone’s true personality. The looks and expressions that only a few people have seen. I want to see the essence of who you are and capture it with my camera. So we may do things a little differently than you are used to. No stiff posing or "cheese" grins. You are simply hanging out with your family, and I am a fly on the wall capturing it all.

My second goal is for the images I create to be treasured as works of art that are enjoyed by your children’s grandchildren. I may be biased, but it is my opinion that family photos are the most important luxury we can ever acquire. When a family member passes on, what is the first thing we look for? Photos of that person! When our children are grown, the fancy car that we had will not be of any importance, but we will be glad for all the moments we were able to freeze through the magic of photography. So please take a moment with me to discuss how we will create your family’s artwork so that it can be enjoyed for years to come.

Investment

Fine art photography is an investment and one that should be carefully considered. Make sure that the photographer you have selected fits your style and has the same vision you do.

A non-refundable retainer of $195 is required to schedule your session. Sessions start at $195. If you need to reschedule your session, the retainer will transfer to your new session. This fee pays for the time and talent of the photographer and any photos ordered are an additional cost. A la carte photos begin at $56 and portrait collections begin at $495.

I offer a wide variety of ways to display your artwork including three different mounting options for your wall photos and multiple album options. Digital images are available for purchase as well as many other keepsake options.

When you hire an independent professional photographer, you are not just paying someone with a nice camera to push the button.  There are many hidden costs to running a photography business and processing portraits. I pour my heart and soul into my artwork, and for every hour spent behind the lens, I spend 2-3 hours editing. Taxes claim 1/3 of everything I make, I give 10% to orphans in Africa, and I also need to cover my business expenses: liability and equipment insurance, camera and lens maintenance, memory cards, cloud storage, external hard drives, upgrades when necessary (and only when absolutely necessary. I don't spend money on new gear), memberships to photography groups and forums where I can continue to learn and grow as a photographer, software, website hosting and domain, marketing materials, business licenses, client proofing platforms, etc. Your portraits and products are made in a professional photo lab on the highest of quality paper and canvas, and will last for generations.
